Tuesday TimeWasters

I have two Timewasters this week. The first requires very little "skill" being mainly a game of luck/chance. But yet it's oddly addictive anyway. The game is called "Chain Reaction" and consists of a grid of "molecues". You click on a "molecue" to start a 'chain reaction' and then just sit back to see how long it will last.
My best 'chain reaction' so far lasted for 1398 reactions.

My next game is named "Anagrammatic" and is, as you may have guessed, a word game. The object of which is to form a longer word than your opponent from the letters provided. In this game, you actually play against another person who is in one of the several "rooms" from which you can enter to play. Fun to play if you enjoy 'word games'.

Tuesday TimeWasters

This week I have two Timewasters and couldn't decide which one to put up so figured I'd use both of them.

The first is a version of the old "Breakout"-type game, but with a creepy sort of twist. Instead of shooting balls at bricks, you fire skulls and catch magic potions to get 'special' powers. It's called "Mortanoid" and you can download a copy of the game if you want. It has 33 levels, but I only got through the first 3. My reflexes are just not that good, I guess!

For someone like me with slow reflexes, the next game might be better. It's just a version of "Battleship", but it nicely done, I think. Of course it is named "Battleships" and plays just like it's namesake. Place your ships and try to find & destroy the enemy ships. It shows a download option on the game, but I couldn't get it to work. I did find a round-about way to download a link to the game which allows me to open it in a browser window to play it without going to the website. This method also creates a larger version of the game grids which are easier to see & play. I use Firefox as my browser so I don't know if there is a way to do this in Explorer or not. (I'll try to see if it can be done__if so I'll post an update).

Here's the method I used if you want to try it:
1-Using Firefox, go to the game using the link above. (you'll be at the opening game screen)
2-In the browser toolbar, select the option "Tools" (Or you can right-click & bring up the menu)
3-Now select "Page Info" .(This will open a dialog box)
4-Select the "Media" tab. (You'll see a list of address items that are on that webpage)
5-Scroll down the list until you see the word "Embed" on the right side of the list.
6-It will look like this: http://www.2dplay.com/battleships/battleships.swf Embed
7-Highlight that line by clicking on it.
8-Now go down to where it says "Save As" and click.
9-You can now save this link to your computer. (An icon will appear with the name 'battleships.swf ')
10-To run the game , right-click on the icon,select "Open with" ....Firefox.
This will open the game in your browser!!
I know it's kinda complicated, but it works...the nice thing about using this method is that once you learn how to do it, it can also be used to get images, even videos that you normnally can't download using the 'Save image as" function. Some websites disable the 'right-click' feature to keep you from getting images off the site. This method bypasses that entirely.

Tuesday TimeWasters

Well, I just wasted an hour or more on this little game so I guess it qualifies as a "TimeWaster". It's just a version of the old game Hangman, but with a funny twist. Called "Hangaroo", it has over 8,500 terms and phrases so it won't get old too quick. Plus you can download it to your own computer ! It even allows you to add data files to expand the game's database of phrases.

I love word games and even though this one is a new take on an old game, it is very well done. To win you have to complete 10 phrases correctly. So far the best I've done is five. There are various catagories that the phrases come from, such as movie titles, songs & artists, TV shows, mountain range names, etc. There seems to be a lot of variety in the catagories to keep it interesting.

And it hsa a cute little kangeroo to 'encourage' you in the game! What more could you want?
Give it a try if you are just "hanging" around with nothing to do!

Oh, No, I got so involved playing this week's TimeWaster game I almost forgot to post it!

It's called "Bubbles" and it's simple but very addictive. I found it on MetaCafe but here's a direct link to it.

I have been playing it for the past few hours, but don't blame me if you start playing and forget to do whatever else it was you were supposed to be doing.

Tuesday TimeWasters

Ten days ago (July 15th) I put a couple of links to games I came upon in my trips through cyberspace. Basically they were just ways for me to waste time....so I decided to make it a regular feature. And "Tuesday Timewasters" sounded like a good title for it, so here it is!
Sometimes it may only be one game, other time it may be two, depending on what I come across in my travels, or how lazy I am that week.

I enjoyed this little puzzle cube game in which you have to link up the colors on the cube. The first few rounds are pretty easy, but it gets a lot trickier as you progress to higher levels. I'm just doing one game this week because I got it up kinda late in the day. Next week, I'll try to post my "TimeWaster" earlier in the day so you can waste even more time.

I called this blog entry "TimeWasters" because that's what I'm been doing the past few days.
Just sort of surfing the 'net, finding ways to waste time. I probably should be doing more important things--like curing cancer, solving the problem of world hunger, or bringing world peace.
But I decided to let someone else work on those problems this week.

At least I did do my laundry yesterday--that's something, right?

Anyway, since I haven't been able to drag myself away from my computer, here's a couple of "Time Wasting" little games I came across in my travels through cyberspace.


This first one is a little strategy game called "Dice Wars" the object of which is to take over more territory than your computer opponent(s). It's not as simple or easy as it may look at first. OK--it's not as graphically advanced as today's best computer games, but I liked it because it is simpler and you can play an entire game fairly quickly. You don't have to devote hours or days to it like you night with more complicated strategy games.

Now this next little game is a little bit on the "sick" or "gory" side. But it's only stick figure men so it's not that realistic. But I have to admit I spent hours playing it. It took a few games to get the hang of it, but then I becaqme addicted to it.
It's called "Bowman" and involves shooting arrows at your opponent in an attempt to kill him. You have to set the strength and angle of your shot to hit your opponent. There are also options to add wind or a wall between the two bowmen to make it more difficult.

UPDATE: Wow--that was a surprise to me when I posted this. I had tried to copy & paste a picture of the stickmen in this game but it turned out the entire game came along with it! I didn't even know I could do that....so you can try it out here if you want. If you would like to have a larger version, click on the "Bowman" link above to go to the site.

So now you see what an exciting life I have....please don't be too jealous of me! Spending hours "wasting time" when I could be solving all of the world's problems.

Actually I have gotten out of the house a few times this past week. I saw a musical performance in the park--"Beauty And The Beast", and spent time outdoors enjoying the warm weather, which won't last long, at least not long enough for me. Although I did take my laptop along a couple times and watched some episodes of "DiggNation" I had downloaded. And I listened to several podcasts of Feasts Of Fools I'd loaded onto my MP3 player (a 1 gigabyte Creative Zen Nano).

Well , maybe next week I'll get off up my butt and do something worthwhile....or then again, maybe not. After all there are still millions of web sites I haven't seen yet.
