Are we all perhaps linked by invisible bonds? Do the actions of one affect others, even if those others are far away? Our lives and the universe itself may be all part of a single mechanism in which all creatures and events are 'entangled' with one another.

I came across this story on Digg.com and the link above takes you to the CBC News site that has the full story.

A Quebec scientist said a vaccine for HIV could be ready in five years. Rafick-Pierre Sékaly is the scientific director of CANVAC, a network for Canadian vaccine research.

Let's hope this becomes reality, but there have been other attempts at creating an HIV vaccine that didn't turn out to be effective so we'll just have to wait and see how this new attempt works out. So, in other words, don't go crazy and start having unprotected sex with everyone in sight thinking there will be a vaccine in 5 years!
Practice safe sex ...personally I practice the safest form of sex...none, unfortunately. (But I save a fortune not having to buy condoms or lube!)

Now don't think I'm making light about such a serious subject as HIV/AIDS...I'm not.
I would like to point out that even if a vaccine is developed, that doesn't mean a "cure" for HIV/AIDS--a vaccine can only prevent someone from becoming infected--it doesn't eliminate the disease from those already infected. I know most people reading this probably already know that, but you'd be surprised at how many people think a vaccine is a cure for a disease. The polio vaccine, for instance, prevented people from getting polio but didn't cure those who had already had been infected. Just some helpful info from your friendly science geek.

Hmmm...Perhaps if less money was spent fighting wars & instead spent on scientific and medical research, we would have cures for many more diseases...sorry, this is just one of my pet peeves with the Human race. I feel sometimes that Humans are wasting their "supposed" superior intelligence, but soon the intelligent machines will take over and solve that little problem. Maybe I'll save that rant for another time, though.
