Are we all perhaps linked by invisible bonds? Do the actions of one affect others, even if those others are far away? Our lives and the universe itself may be all part of a single mechanism in which all creatures and events are 'entangled' with one another.

Jungian Personality Test

Took this personality test earlier. And I think it proves what I already knew--I don't have much of a personality. Or at least one that's pretty deeply hidden.

Overall, this test seems accurate. In my case, anyway. The one item I would dispute is the line "would rather be friendless than jobless". I could always find a job, but it is much harder for me to find a friend, so I place a much higher value on friendship than on employment. Of course, I need a job to sustain my extravagant lifestyle (in other words, live indoors and eat occasionally), but a friend is like a 'special bonus' life sometimes sees fit to place in your path.
I have had few friends in my life and never had any that I really spent a lot of time with or ever discussed "my feelings" with (emotions...ewww) . To be honest, since writng this blog, I've revealed more about myself than I ever have to anyone in person. Don't you feel lucky (or just plain scared?) that you know me that well?!

Your type is: INTJ

INTJ - "Mastermind". Introverted intellectual with a preference for finding certainty. A builder of systems and the applier of theoretical models. 2.1% of total population.
Free Jung Personality Test (similar to Myers-Briggs/MBTI)

Introverted (I) 88% Extroverted (E) 12%
Intuitive (N) 56.82% Sensing (S) 43.18%
Thinking (T) 76.67% Feeling (F) 23.33%
Judging (J) 57.58% Perceiving (P) 42.42%

loner, more interested in intellectual pursuits than relationships or family, not very altruistic, not very complimentary, would rather be friendless than jobless, observer, values solitude, perfectionist, detached, private, not much fun, hidden, skeptical, does not tend to like most people, socially uncomfortable, not physically affectionate, unhappy, does not talk about feelings, hard to impress, analytical, likes esoteric things, tends to be pessimistic, not spontaneous, prone to discontentment, guarded, does not think they are weird but others do, responsible, can be insensitive or ambivalent to the misfortunes of others, orderly, clean, organized, familiar with darkside, tends not to value organized religion, suspicious of others, can be lonely, rarely shows anger, punctual, finisher, prepared

favored careers:

scientist, dictator, forensic anthropologist, systems analyst, philosopher, nuclear engineer, political analyst, researcher, statistician, scholar, research scientist, computer scientist, software designer, curator, computer programmer, aerospace engineer, electrical engineer, paleontologist, english professor, philosophy professor, chemical engineer, epidemiologist, forensic scientist, museum curator, research assistant, mechanic, astronomer, figher pilot, librarian, systems administrator, neurosurgeon, book editor, biotechnology, archeologist, lab tech, bookstore owner

disfavored careers:

advertising executive, job in entertainment industry, performer, singer, art therapist, childcare worker, bartender, dj, event coordinator, hair dresser, wedding planner

~~~~~~~~~~~~
This test says I'm hidden and don't talk about feelings, and it's correct....but just to try to prove it wrong I'll reveal a:
***SECRET*** Ok, here's a secret I never talk about. When I was 17 years old, and after my Mom had died, I went to live with an Aunt & Uncle for about a year. I met a boy who lived a few houses up the street and I spent a lot of time with him, usually just hanging out at his house, watching TV. He's the only friend I ever really spent much time with, but after that year, I moved to the other side of town and was working to support myself. Didn't see him much then and the friendship slowly faded away. Probably more due to me not making enough of an effort to keep up the friendship, although there is more to the story (you'll just have to wait for the next chapter, if I choose to reveal it). I still think of him as a friend, even though I haven't seen him in over 20 years.
So what's the secret, you're probably thinking....well, alright, *cough cough*, a-hem....I suppose I have to admit it....I was in love with him. There, I said it! But being the the messed-up introvert that I am, and unsure of how he felt, and not knowing anything about sex, and still confused about the whole 'gay thing' and all that other crap, I never told him (or anyone else) -- until now.
Hmmm....favored career--dictator--that does sound promising. Should I start with a small country and work my way up or just go for it and take over the this country? It is the only remaining Superpower....I'll have to think on this some more......
World's Smallest Political Quiz
Where do you fit in the political sprectrum? Are you liberal, conservative, moderate, libertarian, statist(someone who supports big government) ?
Go here to take this quick & simple quiz to find out where you stand...you might be surprised by the result!
Here are what some others had to say about the quiz:
"The Quiz has gained respect as a valid measure of a person's political leanings." -- The Washington Post
"The World's Smallest Political Quiz stands ready to help you determine your political identity. Quick and relatively painless." -- USA Today
"If you aren't sure what your political ideology is, you can take the World's Smallest Political Quiz, which places you on a diamond-shaped political spectrum (rather than the standard left/right straight line). Bear in mind that it is a libertarian quiz. Still, it's a good tool for helping you to determine roughly where you fit." -- 9-11Peace.org Bulletin
Where do I score on
The World's Smallest Political Quiz?
Ok, I'll admit it....my score is 100 % Libertarian, I'm proud to say!
With some Anarchist leanings thrown in for good measure. Now don't get scared--Anarchism is NOT what most people think of when they hear the word anarchy. Usually people will picture wild-eyed maniacs running around tossing bombs, but that's just because the word "anarchy" has been used (or rather mis-used) for so long. Whenever there's a chaotic situation or rioting in the streets the media will describe it as "anarchy".
Anarchism is the belief that governments are unnecessary and undesirable because they achieve their goals through the use of
use force or coercion, rather than the peaceful cooperation of individuals. Anarchists believe that people should be able to voluntarily work together or form organizations to achieve their goals and desires. Basically it's self-government, in which individuals determine for themselves what is best rather than have some politician or government bureacraut decide.
Unfortunately, in the world today, I don't see much hope for such a Utopian vision. It seems to me the Human race is still too immature and violent to be able to peacefully cooperate and work together to create a better world for everyone.
Or maybe I was just born a few hundred years too soon and that time of peaceful co-existence and individual freedom is yet to come. For the sake of Humanity, I certainly hope so!
Videos Of The Week....& "Elephant Feet !"
My videos this week have a common theme--some of my favorite cartoon series. I haven't seen them in a long time and don't even know if they are still being shown on TV. But I loved them when they were on!
Oh, and after you watch the videos, I'll explain that odd "elephant feet" remark in the title above!
"Duckman: Private Dick/Family Man" (1994)
I too have often dreamed of taking over the world, which is why I loved:
Speaking of brains, here's a peek into my weird & scary brain!
Ok...I've left you in suspense long enough...
This morning at 5AM I just barely remember shutting off an alarm clock right next to my bed, but didn't actually wake up. I think I was dreaming and automatically reached out and hit the button. Then at 6AM a second alarm clock across the room went off (my backup alarm). I heard the buzzing (it's much louder than the one by the bed) and started to get up to shut it off, but as I did so I thought "I have to get up because..." and then an image of an elephant's feet flashed through my mind.
At that moment I knew I had to get up due to something about those "elephant's feet", but I have NO idea what! I guess I must have still been partly asleep, maybe dreaming about elephants? Who knows? As I shut off the alarm, I thought to myself, "elephant's feet--what does that mean?"
All day long while at work I kept recalling that image, but still could not figure out what it meant or why I would even think of something so odd.
And yes, as a kid, I DID dream of one day taking over the world !!
Hmmmm....maybe if I had an army of elephants.....mutant, SUPER-Elephants...yeah, that's it !!
SPECIAL BONUS VIDEO ! (Just 'cause I love my loyal readers)
I came across this one while searching for the others, and it was just too cute & funny to pass up, so here it is--
Science Fiction Ideal Genre For Diverse Audience
Here's a item I found on the "Daily Campus', the newspaper of the University Of Connecticut, that I thought was interesting. Below are just a few paragraphs from the article...click on the article's title or on the post title above to go & read the full article.
As a lifelong science-fiction reader, I agree with the author of this piece. Science-fiction can open people's minds to the possibilities of advancements in science and technology undreamed of in the present, so why couldn't it also help open those minds to diverse lifestyles?
Having read science-fiction from an early age, I sometimes feel that's why I'm not surprised by much of what happens here on Earth. It's almost as though I've traveled throughout the universe, so by comparision, life on this little planet seems mundane at times. Pretty strange coming from someone who has lived his entire life (so far) in the same city and has had few experiences that most people take for granted.
Science Fiction Ideal Genre For Diverse Audience -Daily Campus
By Tara Maroney
Cecilia Tan, an author, editor and publisher, came to the Rainbow Center Wednesday to discuss speculative and science fiction as the ideal medium for queer expression.
She has written baseball nonfiction books, science fiction, and erotica novels. Her publishing company Circlet Press focuses on printing erotic science fiction. As part of the weekly Out to Lunch lecture series, Tan spoke of science fiction as a good means of expression for queer individuals.
The only way that human beings find themselves in a culture filled with sexual messages is to learn about oneself, Tan said. Literature has the ability to put people in a world that they are unfamiliar with. In the case of science fiction it can take people out of social norms to find themselves.
Slacking Off On Harold's Planet
Been slacking a bit lately in posting much here, mainly just 'cause I'm been too tired to think of anything, or if I do think of something, can't work up the energy to actually type it.
Not that anything interesting happens to me to write about, but I feel a little guilty when I don't put stuff up. By the time I get home from work, I'm tired and just sit and stare at the TV (and, yes, in case you're wondering, I DO remember to turn it on first). Or browse the web--since my computer is in the same room, I usually do both at once. I do check out my favorite blogs, of course!
It's my own fault that I'm this tired because I stay up late, get up early, and don't eat all that much. I don't know why but I sometimes just get into a pattern like that. Well that plus the fact I'm getting to be an old geezer!
Well, only 4 more weeks of torture (also known as my job) and I'll be free for the summer! Woo-Hoo!
'Cause we close for the entire summer (I work on a college campus). Then I'll have plenty of time to rest up & maybe even figure out a way to improve my life.
But for now, here's a cartoon to enjoy....
I'm amazed by how far videogame/computer graphics have progressed. It's getting so you can't tell computer-generated images from real-life ones. But then, can we even be certain that everything is not just a computer simulation? Which leads to this story from Wired magazine:
Quantum mechanic Seth Lloyd says we really are controlled by a computer.
Seth Lloyd is the kind of guy you'd like to have a beer with. Between gulps, the MIT prof will impart the details of how the universe really works. And if you order another, he'll give you a summary of one of the most mind-boggling ideas emerging in science today. His new book, Programming the Universe, is a plainspoken tale of how the universe is - tell me if you've heard this before - one very large quantum computer. - Kevin Kelly
Hacked ! / Harold's Planet
Update: Tuesday, 4/18/2007 I've updated the greeting that was 'hacked' onto my cellphone's voicemail--it's below in green. (and I still thinks it's funny)
Have you ever heard of "voicemail hacking?" That's when someone gains access to your phone's voicemail and can listen to your messages or change your personal message that people hear when they call you. I just found out this past weekend that someone has done that on my phone's voicemail, adding a message that anyone calling will hear instead of the "default" message that had been there. I have a prepaid cell phone which I rarely use anyway ('cause I really have no one to call) and I receive very few calls. But this past Saturday a friend stopped by to visit while another friend was also visiting. Now that is itself very unusual for me since I have just a couple of friends and see one of them about once a month and the other even less. But it just happened they both showed up this week at the same time!
To get back to the voicemail hacker--my second friend Tim came by and he asked "why do you have that weird message on your voicemail?" And I didn't know what he was talking about because when I set up the voicemail, I just chose the "default" recorded message and did not put on a personal message. Since I also never use that feature anyway. Later I want to my friend's house and we called my phone so I could hear the message. It goes something like this: (this is not exact as I don't remember the exact words, but it's close):
"This is the FCC. The greeting of the person you're calling has been censored because it was inappropriate and vulgar. He's obviously a *bleep* *bleep* and his mother is *bleep* *bleep*ho-bag."
There's a little more to it than that--I'll have to try to listen again to get the whole thing right--but that's the general tone of it. The *bleeps* were actually that--as if curse words were being censored. Then the standard recorded instructions on how to leave a message play.
Now some people would be angry or upset that someone hacked into their phone voicemail like that and changed the message, but I thought this was hilarious! I plan to leave it on there, because it's better than any message I could think up to put on. I'm going to call it again later and try to write down the exact message 'cause I think it's so funny!
I don't know who the hacker is, but at least he has a sense of humor...and I don't get any really personal messages anyway (usually get none at all) so I don't even care if he can hear any messages left! So I just want to say "Thank You", mystery phone hacker, for giving me a laugh!
And speaking of laughing, here's another of "Harold's Planet" cartoons. Which I always find funny.
Check out www.haroldsplanet.com/daily.htm for more about Harold's adventures, or to see the archived strips.
True Or False Quizzes
Just killing time taking some online quizzes. Now I've found that some of these quizzes sometimes seem to be pretty accurate while others couldn't be more wrong. I know that most are not at all scientific and don't really mean anything, but they're fun to do. Especially if you were a brainy nerd in school like I was who actually enjoyed taking tests. Yes, I can reveal that deep, dark secret now that I'm been out of school for many, many years.
Typically in class, if the teacher announced an upcoming test, the entire class groaned at the prospect. But I always looked upon exams as a kind of puzzle or game in which the point was to see how high you could score. Of course, I wasn't silly enough to admit that in school, but just secretly enjoyed it. I even liked surprise or "pop" quizzes that some teachers liked to spring on the class without warning. To me, they were like an extra bonus!
OK, now that I have revealed that "horrible" secret, see if you can guess which of the following quizzes I took were "TRUE" in describing me and which were "FALSE" in that they were not accurate about me. I'll tell at the end which ones I feel are correct or not.
***Don't cheat & peek at the answers first--if you do, I'll have to keep you after class ! ***
~~~ # 1 ~~~
You Have a Melancholic Temperament

Introspective and reflective, you think about everything and anything.
You are a soft-hearted daydreamer. You long for your ideal life.
You love silence and solitude. Everyday life is usually too chaotic for you.

Given enough time alone, it's easy for you to find inner peace.
You tend to be spiritual, having found your own meaning of life.
Wise and patient, you can help people through difficult times.

At your worst, you brood and sulk. Your negative thoughts can trap you.
You are reserved and withdrawn. This makes it hard to connect to others.
You tend to over think small things, making decisions difficult.

~~~ # 2 ~~~
You Should Weigh 195
If you weigh less than this, you either have a fast metabolism or are about to gain weight.
If you weigh more than this, you may be losing a few pounds soon!
~~~ # 3 ~~~
You Are Likely A Fourth Born

At your darkest moments, you feel angry.
At work and school, you do best when your analyzing.
When you love someone, you tend to be very giving.

In friendship, you don't take the initiative in reaching out.
Your ideal jobs are: factory jobs, comedy, and dentistry.
You will leave your mark on the world with your own personal philosophy.

~~~ # 4 ~~~
Your Quirk Factor: 80%
You're so quirky, it's hard for you to tell the difference between quirky and normal.
No doubt about it, there's little about you that's "normal" or "average."
~~~ # 5 ~~~
Well, You Know What a Blog Is...

You got 3/8 correct!
But, truthfully, most blogs probably bore you.

Now for the answers:
#1 ~ This one I felt was very TRUE -- if you said TRUE, give yourself 20 points!
#2 ~ WAY off! I only weigh about 135 and have always been thin! 20 points if you said FALSE!
#3 ~ Actually I was 3rd (and last) born! I'd say this one was TRUE! 20 points for TRUE!
#4 ~ I also feel this quiz is TRUE! I'm really pretty weird! 20 points if you said it was TRUE!
#5 ~ This one I think is definitely FALSE! I think I know quite a bit about blogging and I love many, many blogs--would I spend this much time doing this if I didn't like it? 20 points if you said this was FALSE!

Add up the answers you got correct....20 for each one you got right. How did you do?

20-40 points means "You don't know me very well--you should come to my blog more often to learn about how fascinating I really am!"
60-80 points
means "You know me pretty well--you must have been reading my silly ramblings here for awhile. That also means you've got a lot of free time on your hands to waste reading my blog! But thanks for visiting anyway--you are a true blogger buddy!"
100 points means"You know me better than I know myself!! I was surprised by some of the results of these quizzes! WOW! I'm really impressed by your insight and dedication to learning all about me !(Want to get married?)
Thanks for taking my quiz about quizzes about me. HA! HA! I tricked you into taking a "pop" quiz! Aren't you glad you didn't have me for your teacher in school?

Sunday Thoughts

Spring appears to be slowly arriving here, but it's still a bit cool outside. Took a walk earlier, sat for a bit in a nearby park, enroute to the grocery store. While sitting there glancing through a magazine I happened to look up as two young men were walking past. I noticed them because one of them was carrying a Didgeridoo, an Australian Aborigine musical instrument. I love the sounds of the didgeridoo and have even considered buying one.

Australian Aboriginal burned carved and stained Didgeridoos from Wandoo Didgeridoo Australia
But that was not the only thing that caught my attention. As the guys passed by, I noticed they were holding hands....and I thought to myself....awww....Spring is in the air and Love is blooming. Now this may not seem like a big deal, but I don't think I've ever seen two guys walking here in Albany, holding hands. Except maybe at a Gay Pride event or function. 'Course, I admit I don't get around much, but it just pleased me to see this display of affection.

Now, if the trees, which still look like this:

http://www.shapelessmass.com/visuals/trees/tree08.jpg

would sprout some beautiful green leaves, it would definitely look and feel more like Spring had arrived!

On a related note--it's Spring Break week at the college I work at so I've got this whole week off--Yaaay! I can stay home and play ALL day if I want! Or go out and enjoy some of the nice weather we're supposed to have this week.

News That Makes Me Mad !

Mother dies after 911 call is treated as prank
Updated: 5:33 p.m. ET April 7, 2006

DETROIT - A 5-year-old boy called 911 to report that his mother had collapsed in their apartment, but an operator told him he should not be playing on the phone, and she died before help arrived.

Turner's son, Robert, placed two calls to 911 after his mother collapsed Feb. 20 on the kitchen floor. During one of the calls, an operator said: "You shouldn't be playing on the phone."

Delaina Patterson, the eldest of Turner's 10 children, said police did not arrive until three hours later. She said only Robert and his mother were home at the time.

Stories like this in the news always gets me angry....maybe that's why I quit watching local news years ago. A tragedy like this could have been easily avoided if the 911 operator had just gone ahead and passed the call over to the police. Let them
check it out and see if it's a prank--if it is, then deal with it appropriately at that time.

"When in doubt, send them out!" would be my advice in a case such as this--the police can spare a few minutes to check out the call. If they've got the time to waste arresting prostitutes or issuing parking tickets or arresting someone for smoking weed, they have the time to check on what could be a life-threatening situation.

Think !

I guess that's the best advice I can offer !

An Old Fossil

No, I'm not talking about myself, but a recent scientific discovery of a fossil of an animal that is a link between fish and four-legged land animals.

"Missing link" fossil:

PhotoPARIS (AFP) - In the beginning, there was the sea... and little by little, the fish in the sea moved on to the land, evolving into the myriad species of animals that have lived, eaten or been eaten, fought and died on terra firma for more than 300 million years.

But when did these extraordinary events take place? And how did they happen? How did fish develop the ability to support the weight of their body out of water and to move around on land?

The answers, say American palaeontologists, lie in astonishingly detailed fossils that have been coaxed out of ancient rock just a thousand kilometres (600 miles) from the North Pole.

The newly-discovered species, dubbed Tiktaalik roseae, looks superficially like a crocodile, with a skull around 20 centimetres (eight inches) long.

The sediment in which Tiktaalik was found has been dated to around 375 million years ago, in the swampy primeval era known as the Devonian.

"The skeleton of Tiktaalik indicates that it could support its body under the force of gravity, whether in very shallow water or on land," said co-author Farish Jenkins, a professor of organismic and evolutionary biology at Harvard University.

"This represents a critical early phase in the evolution of all limbed animals, including humans -- albeit a very ancient step."

Videos Of The Week

I'm not very passionate about many things; I just don't seem to get excited in general. To tell the truth, I sort of envy those people who can get really worked up over such things as a sporting event, a movie, or anything like that. Maybe I think too much or am too analytical--I don't know. Even as a kid, I wasn't one to get all excited and scream or laugh at things most kids will get excited about. But there is one area that I have always felt a passion for--outer space! As a child, I would look up into the night sky and feel a 'connection' or 'longing' to be up there, traveling amongst the stars & planets. It's almost as though I feel that my "real" home is somewhere else out there in the universe, that I am somehow an alien visiting this small planet and someday I will get to return home to where I belong.

I still wish sometimes that I could leave on a long voyage into the cosmos to explore all the wonders that I know are out there. Would I miss being here on Earth? Odd as it may sound--No, I doubt that I would.

The reality is, of course, that I'll never make it into space and get to travel out to the stars.

But I can still look up at the night sky and dream, can't I?

This video is a tribute to those that have been able to leave the Earth to venture into space, if even for just a short time.

The next video is titled "Cute Boys" and that pretty much says it all. It's a series of paintings by Steve Walker of, well, "cute boys"....

The reality is, of course, that I'll never have a cute boy fall in love with me.

But I can still look at them and dream, can't I?

It's Getting Hot In Here !

Or should I say " It's getting hot out there?" There's increased activity on the Sun and there's a string of comets headed this way.

Most people think of outer space as just a big empty place, but there's a lot of activity going on above our heads. And some of that activity affects us here on Earth, such as solar flares, which if powerful enough, can disrupt radio communication, damage satellites, and even pose a danger to atronauts on the International Space Station.

So here are two "spacey" events happening currently:

SOLAR ACTIVITY: Things are heating up on the sun. The growth of sunspot group 865 continues; it now stretches more than 10 Earth diameters from end to end. The spot has a twisted and possibly unstable magnetic field that harbors energy for M-class solar flares.

Meanwhile, flame-shaped prominences are dancing around the sun's limb, as shown in this six-hour movie recorded by amateur astronomer Andrew Chatman of Pittsford, New York:

Although they look like flames, prominences are not fire. They are enormous clouds of gas held aloft by solar magnetic force fields. The best way to see them is through H-alpha telescopes tuned to the red glow of solar hydrogen.

In 1995, Comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 did something unexpected: it fell apart.

For no apparent reason, the comet's nucleus split into at least three"mini-comets" flying single file through space. Astronomers watched with interest, but the view was blurry even through large telescopes. The comet was a hundred and fifty million miles away.

We're about to get a much closer look. In May 2006 the fragments are going to fly past Earth closer than any comet has come in almost eighty years.

There's no danger of a collision. "Goodness, no," says Yeomans. "The closest fragment will be about six million miles away--or twenty-five times farther than the Moon." That's close without actually being scary

    from the left of the pic to that egg-shaped one in the center are the Empire State Plaza--
    a state government office complex. It's where I took the fireworks video I posted the other
    day.
    3~ Changed the colors of the blog title & link lists to make them easier to see.
    4~ Managed to learn a little more HTML code while messing around with the blog template.

    I want to thank Thur Broeders whose designed this template and many others and has posted them for others to use on his blog here. Also his instructions on creating a banner image helped me in making mine.
    Another site that proved helpful is HTML Goodies where I found the color codes I needed to change my colors. This site has tons of useful infomation that can help you with your website/blog.

    I think it's fabulous (that's right--I said fabulous--I'm gay, I'm allowed to use that word) that people would spend the time & effort to create something like the sites above & allow others to use it free of charge. Back when I was using my old Amiga 500 computer (in the 1990's) most of the software I had were "Public Domain" programs & games. That is, programs written by people who did it for their own use or just 'cause they enjoyed programming, then released it for free or very low-cost. I always thought that it was amazing....it can be a lot of work to write a good program and get it to run properly. I didn't have a lot of cash to spare so the public domain stuff was a great bargain, and the programs were as good or better than commercial ones available for sale at the local computer store.

    Plan to add some more links in my blog list--there are so many cool blogs I've come across that I don't have time to read them all--even though reading is probably what I'm best at.
    But that will have to wait until tomorrow....or later today, I should say. Gotta go get a few hours of sleep before I get back up to go to the laundromat (like to go there at 7 AM when it opens to avoid the crowds later in the day).

    Speaking of reading, I remember when I was very young, not yet old enough even to go to school, how much I wanted to learn to read. When we were riding somewhere in my brother's car, I would constantly ask my mother "Ma, what's that sign say?" She'd tell me, and if I didn't understand what the word meant, I'd ask "what's that mean?" And she'd have to explain that as well....I must have drove her crazy, now that I think about it. Now if I could just get someone to pay me to read, I'd be all set!

    It's almost daylight and I haven't saved any time, so I'll say "Goodnight", or "Good Morming" , whatever it is....
